Science and Medical Editor
Jessica
Even while pursuing honors degrees in literature and media studies at the University of Virginia, Jessica developed an incurable curiosity for and fascination with bioscience and medicine.
She began working as a unit assistant for UVA’s Center for Diabetes Technology, editing journal articles about their patented closed-loop glucose monitoring device, or “artificial pancreas,” and falling in love with PubMed.
Even after working in New York trade publishing for the likes of Writers House and St. Martin’s Press, she continued to edit work for scientific and medical professionals, first in-house at a private radiation oncology practice in Jacksonville, Florida, the first in the state to have a proton therapy (PRT) modality; then, later, as a contractor for RMEI Medical Education, Inc., editing continuing medical education materials for doctors and nurses in disciplines as varied as gastroenterology, immunology, neurology, and rheumatology. She has been a certified member in good standing of the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences since 2024.
After nearly seven years of full-time freelance editing, in which her clients regularly hit the bestseller lists, landed on NPR Best Book of the Year lists, and, once, won a Lambda Literary Award, Jessica made Dragonfly Editorial her home.
Jessica is a published novelist herself and, like a magpie, is always jotting down ideas in her Notes app. When she’s not editing CME materials or drafting her next manuscript, you can find Jessica enjoying her hometown’s craft cocktail scene, jet-setting to her next travel destination with her husband, or snuggling on the couch with their three cats.
