Congrats to KAUST’s New President, Dr. Jean-Lou Chameau

Over the past year, we’ve been busy copywriting for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a graduate research university on the shores of the Red Sea in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. KAUST specializes in cutting-edge technical research and promotes economic development in the Kingdom.
And later this year, the university will welcome its second president.
Jean-Lou Chameau was unanimously appointed by KAUST’s Board of Trustees executive committee on Feb. 16, 2013. He joins the university after 7 years as president of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), plus a distinguished tenure as director of engineering and provost at Georgia Tech. He’ll replace incumbent president Choon Fong Shih.
What made Chameau stand out? At Caltech, he was recognized for promoting multidisciplinary research, international and entrepreneurial opportunities, and development of research programs in energy, medical, and environmental science.
And why did Chameau choose KAUST? “Because of its unique location, and its charter as a new international center of learning and research, KAUST is positioned to have a dramatic impact on the Kingdom and the world. For that reason, it is more than a university; it is an undertaking of historic importance. I will dedicate my energy to lead it toward achieving its bold vision,” he says.
Chameau’s appointment represents the start of a bright new chapter for the university. We welcome Dr. Chameau to the post, and we’re proud that our copywriting helps KAUST share its mission with the world.
